Rhodes College Mock Trial Finishes Top Five!
Congratulations on an amazing finish to a record breaking season for Rhodes Mock Trial! The program finished top five at the national champtionship tournament (nearly 700 teams competed this year). Rhodes will be nationally ranked as the third best program next year.
From Coach Anna Smith:
This weekend, the Rhodes Mock Trial team completed its season with another top 5 national finish, 3 new All Americans, and a lot of sunshine.
Rhodes A tied for first in its division, falling just one point shy of beating the national champions (UVA). Going into round four, Rhodes had already defeated Arizona, Fordham, and Cincinnati. Rhodes swept all three opponents. In round four, Rhodes faced the University of Virginia and won one ballot by 9, lost a ballot by 7, and then lost the final ballot by 1 point. Had Rhodes picked up that extra point (out of 140), Rhodes would have competed against Yale in the final round. Instead, Rhodes and UVA finished in a tie for first and UVA won the tie-breaker. This gave UVA the opportunity to face the former national champions from New Haven in the final round. UVA beat Yale 6-1 in the championship round. While it is tough to feel so close to having the opportunity to win a fifth national championship and fall just one point shy, we are excited to return the entire A team roster next year.
This finish places Rhodes as the number 3 ranked program in the country (based on tournament results over a 3 year span).
The national top 5 for next year will be:
1. Yale, 2. University of Virginia, 3. Rhodes College, 4. Georgia Tech, 5. UCLA
